Thailand Drone License Renewal & Ownership Transfer Guide 2026
Drone permits and drone insurance policies in Thailand have a limited validity period. In addition, when a used drone is bought or sold, the previous owner and the new owner must complete a legal transfer of ownership. Letting a permit expire or using a drone registered under the wrong owner's name is an offense under the Radio Communications Act.
1. Drone License Renewal
A drone permit is divided into 2 key parts whose validity periods must be maintained:
- NBTC License (คท.30): For the entire service life of that drone (unless the unit is replaced or the radio specifications are changed)
- CAAT permit and third-party liability insurance: You must renew , which requires renewing the insurance policy at least 30 days in advance, then updating the new policy in CAAT's UAS Portal system.Every 1 year (Annual Renewal)
2. Steps to transfer ownership of a used drone (Ownership Transfer)
Have the seller endorse the drone transfer consent letter.
The seller must sign a consent-to-transfer document and notify cancellation of the drone registration under the old name, along with a copy of the seller's ID card.
The buyer takes out third-party liability insurance under the new buyer's name.
The new buyer must arrange a third-party liability insurance policy (coverage of no less than 1,000,000 baht) in the new buyer's own name and surname.
Apply for new registration with the NBTC and CAAT.
Submit the transfer document, the new insurance policy, and photos of the drone to request a new permit in the buyer's name.
